Lying to get what you want…Cheating others to get ahead… Breaking the law... Hurting others... Taking advantage of others… even if doing these things gets you closer to the thing or things you may want in your life, what have you given up? Who have you sacrificed?
I admit…sometimes doing the right thing is really, really not what I want to do and I’m glad to say I have only felt that way a couple times in my 40+ years of life. There have been certain individuals I have encountered in my journey so far that have made it pretty difficult for me to continue to do the right thing. Especially since they appear to be doing their level best, by using deceit and ugliness, to make my life a painful one.
Over the last few years, here is a question I often found myself asking: If they don’t have to play by the rules, why should I?
“An eye for an eye” right? Or “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.” You get my drift I'm sure.
I have often thought that these individuals must really be enjoying themselves … getting what they want … but do they even realize it is coming at an expense, I would say a
Huge expense, not to just myself, but to themselves and probably more importantly, to others.
But now, looking back over the time that they invested themselves doing the wrong thing…they were not able to sustain it. So even though I’m sure they enjoyed themselves and thought they were going to have the lifestyle they so desired, they don’t. In fact, they have
Exactly what they so
Don’t desire. And why? Simply because they could not keep up as their lies and deceit piled so high all they could do is keep burying themselves, until there were no recognizable remains left.
Now…if they would have just been good and honest individuals, more concerned about others than themselves, not so bent on the competition, the pain and hurt, then I have absolutely no doubt they would have and be living the lifestyle they really desire.
So…take it from a veteran …..if you are ever tempted to take the wrong road in hopes of getting to your destination easier or faster…think twice. I have proof positive that doing the wrong thing will
Never get you the
Long term results that you want.
On that note, I want to leave you with this quote from the Roman Poet Phaedrus...
“Things are not always what they seem; The first appearance deceives many; The intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden.”
